What is osseointegration?

Osseointegration is an innovative method performed by a surgeon allowing the direct connection of an artificial limb to the skeleton. The prosthesis is firmly attached through a quick connection, which allows the prosthesis become a true extension of the patient’s body and mind. This method is referred to as “bone-anchored” prosthetics. At Perry Prosthetics we then provide the custom prosthetic design and fitting after the surgical phase.

How does it work?

The bone-anchored system is a surgically implanted method that allows the prosthesis to be directly attached to the bone and therefore eliminates the need for a traditional prosthetic socket. The system consists of three parts: an anchoring element (the Fixture/Implant) and a skin-penetrating connection (the Abutment), secured with a screw (the Abutment Screw), along with a prosthetic Adapter, which connects to the prosthesis that Perry Prosthetics provides after the surgical phase is complete.

Am I a Candidate?

The system is available for both upper and lower extremity amputees. Perry Prosthetics provides free consultations to discuss your goals, review the surgical and prosthetic process, and help determine whether you may be a candidate for this procedure in collaboration with your surgical team. Our advanced prosthetic technologies can be applied singly or in various combinations to create personalized treatment plans that are designed to best meet the individual needs and goals of each unique patient once the surgical implant phase has been completed.
